Whether you want to admit it or not, you probably do it all the time…You hesitate to speak up because you worry that you may sound boring or stupid. You try really hard to look modern and attractive at social events in the eyes of those present there. After countless selfies made, you choose the one in which you are the best version of yourself so that you can convince others that you are pretty and likeable. You worry about what others think about you…all the time! Stop! Stop doing that !

The truth is that what others think about you is none of your business. It`s their business. Wasting your time thinking about others` opinion about you serves nothing and seeking approval is nothing but a waste of time and energy. And, it will only bring you suffering. After all, what someone thinks of you has nothing to do with who you are. It actually says more about them, their past, their judgements, their expectations, their likes, and their dislikes.

Some people will never like you, no matter what you do. Instead of worrying about them and their opinion, focus on yourself.  Live your life the best way you can and focus on yourself, your own wishes, goals, and preferences! Here are 5 things to keep in mind to help you stop worrying about what others think of you:

You are the only one who is responsible for your own feelings : If you base your feelings on what others think about you, you let them control you.  You allow them to define you and shape your happiness. For instance, if someone criticizes you, you feel bad about it.  Why? Because you think that they make you feel bad for disrespecting you.  But, the truth is that they don’t have control over your feelings.  You hurt yourself, not them, because you assigned meaning to their behavior.

Always know your values : If you know your values and live your life in accordance with them, you will never be led astray. Let`s say that inner peace is the thing you value the most.  This means that you will have no problem saying no to someone who is asking for your time. Most importantly, you will do it without worrying whether they will judge you or think you are selfish.

Remember you are doing your best : How many times have you felt bad since you thought you have said or done something stupid?  Once, twice, many times?

You should keep in mind that you always did the best you could.  Simply, we all do things with positive intent. Maybe you could have done it better, but you did the best at the given moment and you shouldn’t have any regrets.

Remember that everyone makes mistakes : We all make mistakes and that`s okay. The thing is, you shouldn’t dwell on your mistakes and criticize yourself for them but learn from them instead. You should look at them at valuable lessons which can teach you how to improve yourself and do things better.

Remember that you cannot control how others behave and what they think of you : Why your coworker arrives late at work is their business. Why your neighbor plays loud music is their business. But, if you are mad with your coworker because you cannot finish the work on time because of them, that`s your business. If you are mad with your neighbor because you cannot sleep at night because of their loud music, that`s your business. Remember, the only business you can control, and you should concern yourself with is yours!
